Are there more examples of different parts of a country being separated on a continent by other countries? Only one I can think of is Germany before WWII. Why does it happen? For what purpose?

Yes, i live rather close to Karlskrona (ca 45km).

My father was stationed for some time in Karlskrona during his "military service" in the '80s (his primary base was I11 Växjö), during the most intense time (first pic related).

Yeah, don't know what I was thinking when I mentioned Guantanamo so you might want to scrap that, though I think Baikonur has everything needed to be considered an enclave considering it's literally a Russian city inside Kazakhstan.
