Losing a war (which has happened several times to us) isn't the same as being defeated in battles. Because war isn't about killing the enemy, ultimately. You can win 99% of the fights and still lose the bigger game.
But if the question is military efficiency and application, we're unrivaled. In any given battle, we always kick ass. How that translates into the political sphere is another matter.

The NVA and Vietcong collectively had roughly the same level of tech as we did. SAMs, aircraft, armor, you name it. They just couldn't employ it as freely as we could. But in truth, our strategy of artillery and firebases was so bad, our employment was also limited.
We were hampered by schizophrenic strategy, and they were hampered by our material superiority. And in the end, we still did more to them than to us.
