Pretty much all of Europe has Roman heritage. How do Greeks feel about that, btw? I know that they still occasionally refer to themselves as Romans, especially the older people, but how do they feel about their medieval Roman period in comparison to Classical Greece?

Romans were Germanic genetically, modern Italians are a mixture of Turkish, Arabic and Slavic genes.

My Greek Teacher is seriously into it.

He also supports Katharevousa, so I think he's a minority.

Well he is right in some respects, the original latin people were indistinguishable from the most part from other indo european people like the celts and germanics genetically. There differences arrived from mixing with different natives

Nearly half of Roman population were slaves, slaves in Rome were not random people captured in war but an entire caste of people who inherited slave status from their parents for hundreds of years, an inherently helpless and pathetic people, which Italians descend from, because when Rome fell the free people who lived overwhelmingly in the cities had no food supply and nowhere to go so they were the ones who died at the highest percentages. If you consider Italians descend mostly from this slave caste you'll realize they haven't changed much at all.
