>>14264980 Well, I guess I can understand that if you're entirely uninterested in gameplay, but it actually does have a pretty damn good battle system, so I wouldn't call it "boring shit." But I can assure you from playing Sora no Kiseki FC that the story outweighs the gameplay significantly, probably even moreso in SC.

>>14264991 JRPGs are, practically by design, universally awful to "play" (I use that term loosely). The only reason people trudge through them is for the story, and why bother when you can skip the bullshit and read a good VN instead? You even get porn as a bonus.
If I want gameplay, I'll play something actually fun and not a monotonous menu-driven grindfest.

>>14265007 While you make a valid point, not ALL JRPGs are like that. For example, Undertale is, for some ridiculous reason, a shmup. So it really depends on how they handle it.
This is also why I prefer action RPGs, like the Tales series. That kind of gameplay doesn't get old to me so I'm playing it for everything it has to offer and getting a full game's entertainment value out of it.

>>14264498 What Witch Boy raised was decent for a mobile vn though, it's just that the goal was too high for what was being offered. In the all-or-nothing approach, kickstarter goals have to be reasonable.

>>14264498 >Sekai tried to publish something with no audience Incorrect. As NTY proved beyond doubts, there's an audience on the BL market. SP simply made a very poor decision in regards to the type of BL game, costs and tiers on the kickstarter.
On another note, I don't agree with kickstarter as a business model. Regardless of the reputation and trust a company build up, there's always risk (even if it's little) on supporting a product in early stages of development.

>>14265249 >Incorrect. As NTY proved beyond doubts, there's an audience on the BL market. There is an audience for high-profile ordinary BL games. But there is no audience for a low-quality non-ero mahou shoujo BL VNs.
A certain type of BL games has an audience. Witch Boy doesn't.

>>14265249 Honestly, I think Witch Boy could have succeeded if they weren't so lazy about the campaign until it was already beyond saving. The first couple days are critical and no one wants to contribute to something that doesn't look like it's going to make it. The game was always going to be a hard sell, but I guess they figured they could just coast and people would throw money at them (it took DAYS for them to even post about the project on their own Tumblr). They even got a decent chunk of press coverage. It's really inexcusable.
Anonymous
>>14265293 I think Witch Boy would sell about as well as Hatoful Boyfriend. It clearly is a game mainly for people who'd play something silly.
Anonymous
>>14265307 >no one wants to contribute to something that doesn't look like it's going to make it That's really odd considering you don't pay unless it meets the goal. I can see not contributing if you the goal is too low for what they want to do or the rewards look more expensive than the pledge tiers they are for, otherwise I don't get it.

Quoted By:
>>14265553 It's just a psychological thing. People are more inclined to contribute when something is close to its goal than when it has a long ways to go. It doesn't just apply to Kickstarter either. The same principle even works on dumb shit like social sharing buttons, people substantially are more likely to hit the "tweet" button if it's displaying a large number.
>>14265545 Nah, it's not as meme-tastic as Hatoful (and probably not as genuinely good either). It's a pretty niche title and the main audience for that kind of thing (i.e. Tumblr) is really touchy about the subject of the game's main gimmick.
It could have probably made it if the campaign had launched with at least one stretch goal and those reward tiers they added late in the game along with the promotion they started doing half-way through. Why they didn't start with that shit is beyond me.
Alternately, they could have just gone the freemium mobile route like the original and probably would have raked in way more cash than KS/Steam ever would have made.

MangaGamer has been doing this for a while and it's worked well for them. As expected of sanahtlig. Trying to spread bullshit on official forums of other companies. He's right about the part of JAST needing to learn how to properly beta test their games though.

This was near 1 year ago though. Since then MG started to make more money and it's possible they updated their ratings. Only someone working for them would know this.

MG posted a new thread for license requests from current partners. They posted a google spreadsheet with top requests:

MG's licensing survey likely gave them more valuable data than their license request thread does. It's usually the same few users requesting different games over and over. I hope MG does another survey this year. And maybe make the game requests from existing and new partners different questions this time.

>>14266562 >It bothered me they only showed the top 10 -- which are the most retarded requests possible. Which was why they were willing to show it. They don't want JAST or Sekai to netorare any of the titles they plan to pursue. Flowers was one of the few top 10 titles MG had a shot at, but look what happened. They'll likely be very secretive from now on.
The survey attracted alot of casuals, so the results weren't surprising. I requested titles that I actually thought would be within the realm of possibility for MG to pursue.
