A knife fighting coat on the outside.
Thigh length open front. A chain or airplane cable stitched into the hem line continuous loop around collar down the zipper line around the back and back up the other side. Use this for whipping and snaring (cloak fighting, rope/towel techniques). Learn to grab your zipper seam and use it like a shield with a flail (the rest of the seam) hanging down.
Next fill in the collar with leather belt.
Stitch more belt into the crook of each elbow so you can pinch a blade.
Fine mesh hard ware cloth (metal mesh) stitched into cloth pillow/pouches then stitched into cuffs, sleeves, forearms and upper arms in articulating chunks. Easiest to start with a light long sleeved shirt, attach mesh plates like a muscle suit. Then slip the shirt in the coat/hoodie and stitch it in. This way you get an inner layer and can get it fine tuned with out reaching down a coat sleeve to adjust a mesh plate.
