I am currently in the final stage of my police training. I'll be finished with the police academy on the 29th February 2016.

What kind of gear should I buy, any suggestions? What does a police officer ideally need? I already have this vest on my list. (pic and link related http://www.batex.de/produkte/02/02_01_schutzwesten.htm)

Note: I am in Germany.

Be as autistic as you want-- I like .38mm tips, they take some practice to write nicely with, but theyre great for nice precise letters and lines. Careful not to rip your paper though.
Surefire E2DL is pretty cool. I like Streamlight Protacs as well

They're made of UHMWPE and they don't degrade from getting wet.

Yep, these are a must. The ones we get are utter crap and I don't feel anything with them when searching someone. It's also really thick so I can't even hold stuff properly. lol

Our issued vests are already a combination of stab/gunshot protection, so I'm good. The carriers are pretty expensive so it's probably gonna be just one.

Ich habe mir Haix Black Eagle Stiefel gekauft. Extrem robust und sehr leicht. Außerdem eine besser Taschenlampe mit Akkus. Sonst nur bessere Handschuhe. Oakley Pilot Gloves. Lies dir ausführlich Reviews durch und verschwende dein Geld nicht für unnötgen Quatsch den keiner braucht.

Ich selbst verwende eine Fenix TA21. Sehr hell und hat die perfekte größe um damit noch gut schießen zu können. Hat glaub 75,-€ gekostet. Und als sie mal nicht funktioniert hat wurde sie durch Fenix einwandfrei repariert.
Falls ihr das nicht vom Dienstherren bekommt würde ich dir eine kleine medizinische Notfallausstattung empfehlen. Brauchst ja nicht viel. Nur z.B. ein Tourniquet (Auch gut für Verkehrsunfälle mit abgetrennten Gliedern) ein Israli Bandage, Einweghandschuhe und etwas Verbandmull. Und natürlich ie passende Ausbildung dazu. Die TREMA bietet in Deutschland Kurse für Polizsten zu guten Preisen an. Ich war bislang bei einem tötlichen Schusswaffengebrauch dabei. Leider hatte ich nicht die notwendige Ausrüstung um zu helfen. Machs besser.

First of your gunna need a pistol, you probably think of a Glock but don't get one. Personally I like 1911 or FN Five Seven. If you do not like either of these guns you could try a m9 or the standard issue for Germany. It is all preference when it comes to fire arms so choose wisely. I just highly recommend not getting a Glock.

Spend the extra euro on boots that are as comfortable as possible (while being approved for work of course). Get good socks and underwear. You'll be wearing your uniform a lot so it helps if it is as comfortable as it can be. If you get cold easily you can get some thermals too.

Always have a good (200+ lumen) flaslight. Should be small, handy and virtually indestructible but cheap enough where you can buy several spares. High output LEDs are getting cheaper sp this is a lot easier than you might think. I have a 20$ light that does everything I want and it uses AAA batteries (crs123s are fuckspensive and run out fast).

Buy a good notepad and several good pens (always blue ink). EDC that shit. Get used to writing everything down. Spare pens are for when you run out of ink, or your fuckwit partner forgets theirs. If it expolodes never use that brand again. It sucks when a .5e pen ruins a 100e uniform and it's all on your ass.

I'm just a security guard, but a lot of this applies to any uniformed services. It's surprising how often people way above my pay grade forget the basics and spend all their time obsessing over a gun or something they will never use.
