Looking for the best 9mm carry ammo for my Glock 19. I'd prefer to go with heavy bullets over +P+ so I don't have to deal with the extra bang, recoil, and stress on my gun. What's your suggestions?

I go with Winchester Train&Defend. Recoil is smooth as fuck but the load meets the FBI requirements with a good amount of extra penetration while retaining the bullet weight for windshield glass and such. it has less energy than your super hot +p+ loads but it's not a big deal when it performs just the same in gel (slightly worse expansion than some).

The training ammo is about 26 cents/round which is worth it to be able to train using the same point of impact and recoil as you would in an actual fight. Save the cheap plinking ammo for regular practice.

147g and some other shit like Crit Duty and Crit Defense performed pretty terrible.

It is when it reduces penetration below the 14 inch average of standard pressure and increases recoil and noise. I can see it working better in tiny micro pistols like KelTecs and Kahrs but it's unnecessary in Glock 19 size carry guna.

The bare gel test doesn't prove anything.

The vast majority of folks carrying now are carrying single stacks and compact/subcompact doubles now

These results do not apply to fullsize 4"-4.5" barreled pistols, bru. A half inch makes a huge difference. See: any tnoutdoors 9 results for 4" barreled 9mm, and shootingthebull410 for a 3" barrel.

Not counting the more obscure rounds, the one from this I'm most impressed with are Federal HST 147. They seem to have just gone with the regular, but everyone in here is suggesting the +P. Does anyone have a test comparing the two?

Velocity is what makes or breaks expansion. What may expand beautifully out of a low velocity pocket pistol may overexpand and underpenetrate when pushed out of a compact rather than the subcompacts.

The clothing challenge is a stress test, but you can't extrapolate decent performance against guy with cotton t-shirt if all you have is denim/fleece torture test data. There's a reason the FBI testing leaves bare gel in.

Based on these results, the standard pressure seems better. They did better than +p on the heavy denim test by a larger margin than the +p did on the bare gel test, and without the extra pressure there's less recoil, bang, and stress on the gun.
