Only if you're talking Garand suitable 30-06, running the same pressure the 30-06 produces a fair bit more energy at the cost of size/muzzle/recoil. The main reason the .308 was chosen is it's efficient for it's size and could be run with a shorter/lighter action and the ammo is lighter without loosing any ability to flatten a man out to useable distances. Along those same lines that's why the 5.56 then overtook the 7.62, doesn't take a whole lot to kill a person.

I got a 99 on it and I didn't even study.

Decided not to join the military and went to college for mechanical engineering instead. I plan on working for the army corps of engineers as a mechanical engineer after college, and starting a /k/ related manufacturing business after I've saved enough money to do so. That is how I will serve my country.
