Glock 9mm or .40?

I'm thinking about picking up a Glock for concealed carry and general shooting fun at the range/gravel pit. Problem is; I can't decide whether I want the Glock 19 Gen4 in 9mm or the Glock 23 in .40 cal.

I've never owned a 9mm before but I have owned a .40 before, so I can't really make the comparison on my own. So here I am asking what you would recommend.

More rounds for your $ means more fun at the range. The FBI claims that the premium defensive loads for 9mm and .40 are effectively the same (hence its own switch to 9mm--more bullets in the gun).

How much do used Gen4s go for? If it's a significant savings I'll probably go that route, but in my experience firearms don't depreciate in value too much.

I would prefer .40 is the price of ammo was the same but right now 9mm is like half the price. The difference in terminal ballistics isn't there enough to justify doubling the shooting costs. I would probably get the 9mm today and that's coming from someone who thinks .40cal is an absolutely fantastic round.

For me, getting this in a gun that's the same same size and weight as a 9mm gun (remember .40 exists just to fit into the 9mm frame) is plenty of justification for preferring .40 over 9mm.

I'd be just as happy with 9mm though, it's a great round. .40 just gets you a little better barrier penetration, less deflection through glass and I've found myself shooting slightly more consistently with them.

The 2 big reasons NOT to get .40 right now is:
>ammo expense
>might be too snappy for a brand new shooter
Other than that, it's great and I'll even call it "better" than 9mm.

That pic only demonstrates why I would rather use 9mm, I don't want to kill anyone I'm not trying to. I have other people I live with who's lives I value and are intending to protect.

Really though if you don't live in a similar situation or don't care about capping the cashier on accident then get whatever you like shooting better. IE go to a range and rent some guns OP.

As such, everybody is going through Lipseys, Big Rock, Acusport etc. etc. so when it comes to new Glock anything resembling a "deal" (not that the 550ish price range is a bad "deal" IMO) but you aren't going to walk into a shop one day and see a brand new Gen4 for 300 dollars or something like that.

Anything more than 600 for a standard Glock
17/19/26/22/23/21/30/36 etc.
and youre retarded.

Anything less and you are a magical juden

In between just a matter of a shop you like or has a good deal on FFL transfers

Ballisticly the only thing .40 does better than 9mm is deflect less when going through auto glass. It recoils more and you can't shoot as accurately or fast with .40 as 9mm. 9mm mags also hold more rounds.

First off, I hate glocks. I've always felt 9mm was a puss round. I tried to like them when they first came out (I'm 50, fuck off) but I never could get a feel for them. Terrible trigger, horrible ergonomics, and I couldn't make it work as a cheap race gun. Fuck glock, I'm a 1911 45acp (or 10mm) snob.

About a year ago, a friend let me shoot his pimped out g34. Actually, he forced me, because I didn't want to touch that piece of plastic shit. We were shooting falling plates, and I begrudgingly ran a few strings with it. Shit, that thing shot pretty nice.

Fast forward a year and my "truck gun" is a Gen 4 g34 with a full pyramid trigger/striker group, sand paper grips, and fiber optic sights. I still don't like glocks, but if you throw cash at them, they can be made to run.
