Since this is a tinnitus thread, do you get a tinnitus and/or hearing loss after just some rounds shot without hearing protection?
Or is it something you get after a long time shooting without protection?

I got it not long after I started shooting

>rent AR-10 16" carbine

>fired 60 rounds with just shitty range earmuffs

It's been EEEEEEEEEEE city after that. Every little while it comes in strong for a minute or so, then fades. Otherwise I just hear faint ringing when I'm lying down and it's silent.

Well i too can only sleep with white noise/fan noise. Unrelated to hearing though, just got too used to it. So by sharing your habit i'm making it more statistically popular. A drop in the bucket but hope it helps OP :)

If you lose your hearing so "easy", how is it handled in war?
Like in syria, shouldn't they be all deaf without protection?
They still talk and operate radios but they definitly don't war muffs nor any other protection, at least most of them

From what I understand, under stress, your body prepares itself and can take the loud noises easier. Getting into a shootout innawar or innaDetroit won't damage your hearing as much as just casually shooting when relaxed

I do believe and understand the damage a shot can do, but i question it when seeing videos where they (the kurdish rebels for example) fight with clearly no ear protection.
I'm a nogunz without military experience, so it's something i don't quite understand

Yeah of course, but thats not my point.
While everyone is shooting, they still communicate, talk through the walkie-talkie, talk with others like its not a big deal. Which it should while your hearing is damaged with 10 AK's and a vehicel mounted MG firing right next to you.

They make white noise machines. They play different things like rainstorms or jungle sounds. They are a lot smaller than a fan and even have timers.

Also you can get noise apps for your phone. So you dont even need to take anything with you.

I will say that the noise machines take a little getting used to. I roomed with someone who used one and for the first week Id wake up every 2hrs cause the sounds repeated in a loop.

Very general guidelines

Guns can be 120 to 170 dB.
The threshold for instant hearing damage starts around 120dB.

Foam plugs are 15-high 20's depending on quality.
Earmuffs, both regular and electronic are 20-35 dB depending on quality.

How well those seal around your ear affects their true performance.
Environment and position obviously affects the dB your ears get.

Double up to be safe.
