The S-97 and the V-280/SB-1 aren't competing for the same requirement. The S-97 is for scout helicopter replacement (the Kiowa). The V-280 and SB-1 are competing to replace Blackhawks and eventually Apaches.

Reminds me of this fucker, which was the ADF's main attack chopper until the Army picked up a fleet of Eurocopters. I know that other countries had something similar but I have a soft spot for the various configurations of the Bushranger.

Japan just bought 6 V-22s, so there is hope still for the tilt-rotor, outside of vidja gaem.

Sikorsky is competing in flv with the defiant.
They've got plans for a whole family of X-2 based variants.

I think the tilt rotor is the better design for range and speed, but this is about positioning and Lockheed tends to take contracts under democratic administrations.

I think it was somewhere between price point, range and something to do with being better in a scouting role. Honestly, I'm not really sure. The Tiger is a pretty sexy chopper though so I'm fine with it over an Apache.
Funnily enough, Sikorsky offered up an attack variant of the Blackhawk for the tender. You know, in case we wanted to keep the trend going. Probably would've had better odds if we weren't switching away from our Blackhawks. Pretty sure ours never even got the glass cockpit.
