Any gunsmiths around? My Rossi 462 hammer got stuck back when firing SA (scariest gun-related experience of my life), I took it apart and found this small spring jammed underneath it.

I removed the spring and now it seems to work fine, but does anyone know what it's for? From the best diagram I could find it looks like part of the Taurus Safety System crap, but I'm not sure if it's something essential or not...
