922r literally only matters if you're an FFL or importer.

I challenge you to find one solitary case of someone being convicted and sentenced over 922r alone, it's not realistically possible for anyone to prove that you violated it, and the Feds know this.

How would it happen? Is some dude in a suit gonna approach you and address you like fucking Bane, demand you tell him where the piston/floorplate/hammer/whatever on your AKM was made, and demand you to admit you put it together yourself?

not quite. law states "it is illegal for any person" key word being person. the ATF considers changing the stock as manufacturing. refinishing is also considered manufacturing. before you call me an asshole take one of your non-compliant rifles to the ATF main office and ask them personally if you have broken any laws. please post results.

I have several guns that I had to buy 922r compliant parts for. The only reason is because I was having them professionally converted, and the person doing the conversion told me he wouldn't do the conversion unless I could prove the parts were compliant.

I don't blame him, but if I was converting them myself I wouldn't have cared.

Basically every damn compliant part on SL8s are proof-marked by HK. The person doing the conversion wouldn't do it without compliant parts.

Unlike AKs and other common guns where 922r comes up, there's only 2-3 people/companies that can fully convert a SL8 into a G36 clone. So long as you want a true clone, you have to play by their rules. I really don't blame them to be honest. Their main business is converting firearms from sporting configurations into non-sporting configurations. They're probably watched a little more closely than bubba in his garage dropping his SKS into an Archangel stock.
