Here's my loading from pic related:
>240 grain lead semi wad cutter, ~18 brinell hardness seated to crimp groove>20.0 grains Alliant 2400>Winchester Magnum Large Pistol Primers>Assorted brassBurns a little dirty and leads more than I like, probably need a softer slug for better oburation which will create more pressure and hopefully get better burn out of the 2400.
I could probably go hotter if i wanted in my 629, being that 22.0 grains has been the max load for 2400 powder in 44 mag for years and the cases extract easily and primers are not flattened.
I did the math and not including the cases i saved up i can reload these for about 24 cents a round, shitty winchester white box 44 mag is easily 70 cents or more.
If you're really into the 44 mag and obviously you're into handloading, get yourself a copy of Elmer Keith's (he created the 44 magnum) book "Sixguns", lots to learn in there about pistol shooting and good stories of pre war (ww2 and some before ww1) gunfights.
