If your source used dollars it's shit since conversion rates are totally fucked during wars.
Man hours (and raw material cost) are the only reliable thing to measure cost in a total war.
But the M1 Carbine was the better platform I agree, STG had a better cartridge.
M1 Carbine with 7.92mm kurz or any other intermediate cartridge would have been the best rifle of ww2 by far easily.
