The wrench-turner, no. But I've both briefed pilots with the tactics that they are going to use, and at a different time in my career was assigning aircraft to targets and determining which munitions each bird would carry. It was fun.
>I love working with our ZSSGs but they can be really dense when it comes to what they're blowing up on the ground, they tend to have a "just tell me where to go and what parameters it needs to be dropped in" attitude

Enlisted men flew combat aircraft--even sometimes as fighter pilots--for the RAF, Luftwaffe, and Russian air force during WWII.

This "only officers are worthy to get in a cockpit"/"only officers will ever pull a trigger and fire a shot in anger" thing is very much a USAF institutional tradition, and does not reflect the rest of the world.

Now, if that guy in the video is a 'Murrican, I withdraw my objection.

Eh, I got to fly a D model Viper a few minutes on a fam flight since I was in really good with the pilot. It was fun. My having played a lot of Falcon 4 beforehand was the only reason he really was cool with it... of course the first time I tried to turn I flipped the damn plane over onto its back on account of its stick being about 100x more sensitive than my crappy gaming joystick.

To be fair the royal army operates on a different frequency.
Sergeant NCO ranks are more prestigious and harder to get so you have alot of Corporals.

The US gives everyone who fly's warrant officer, so they can actually focus on flying and training and not stupid shit like painting rocks.

Realistically in a major war the military (any military) wouldn't be able to keep up with attrition of lost pilots- Flying a fighter/helicopter is already dangerous enough in peacetime, so it's safe to assume they would be willing to throw enlisted into the flight program.
It's easier to pull a qualified joe and throw him right into flight school and then commission him than it is to wait for a military college/ROTC cadet to get trained up on basic military shit then the flight school pipeline.

Of course they'd be calling up retired pilots too

Realistically in a major war, the winning side would be decided far before then. Also, We would run out of planes before pilots, and it's not like in WW2 where you can just pump out a shitload of jets.... it takes a LONG time to make a 4/5th gen fighter.
