World War III is triggered by a complex series of geopolitical events that unfold after the unintentional arming of a thermonuclear device carried aboard an Israeli F-35 flying in Indian airspace.
The northern hemisphere is a radioactive ruin, and Jamal, a member of the Marine Raider Regiment, has been separated from his unit following a heated engagement with a small, but well-armed group bandits. Jamal's unit [consisting of two platoons, or about thirty soldiers] informs him over radio that they are split between heading to DC from east Georgia as they originally intended, and heading to NORAD to negotiate a transfer of military equipment and personnel with the government of New Zealand. As Jamal's unit radios him to inform him of the decision they've come to, radio contact is abruptly lost, and never properly reestablished.
Now it's up to him to find and reunite with his group before they move on, or leave the country entirely.
