Looking to learn more about the FN FAL, I've been wanting an M1A for sometime now but the FAL has been popping up a lot in my search. Main use for the weapon is to just have fun with and a mid-range type of weapon.

TBH if I were to do it all over again after owning an M1A and a PTR:

I'd buy a SCAR 17. It's just the newer, superior gun.
If I still had a thing for a classic cold war battle rifle, I'd buy an LRB M14 if I wanted an M14, comb HKPro and Gunbroker for an HK91 if I wanted an H&K, or comb Gunbroker for an FN if i wanted an FAL.

I've handled DSAs also. Alright, but not impressive. For the money I spent, I wish I had of bought the "real thing" rather than the cheap cast springfield with the soft receiver that had wear and mushrooming within 1,000rds. or the mediocre and flimsy feeling PTR that was "build on HK tooling omg!"

You get what you pay for, truly.
