>>27684355I've shot a couple thousand ak5c rounds in all kinds of exercises. I've also lugged it around in everything from -35 to +35 degree weather.
As most people say, it's heavy and it's common to joke about it. It's not a problem for your everyday soldier though.
Durability and reliability is where views really differ and there's a good reason for this:
All of them are military and some of them are old modded A rifles. Most of them has also suffered through a couple of conscripts.
This means if you're unlucky (like i got once) you'll get a rifle that's just sort of haunted with problems (poor conversion, worn parts, "conscript disease").
A good ak5c is very solid and functional though. I managed to get a good one that i held on to for a long time and i put about 1000 rounds through it in a day, just squirting some CLP into it between exercises. It never gave me any problems, even afterwards.
As for accuracy, it's described as accurate up to 400m, but with practice and in decent conditions i've had good results up to 600m. Red dot is pretty xboxhueg.
Plastic mags get a bit brittle in the cold but i've only managed to break like 2, and i live up north. Not sure how some people manage to break them all the fucking time but plate mags are pretty safe even for the gruntest of grunts.
The safety is ambidextrous and i think it's pretty good, not as smooth as an M4 or similar though. Don't need to load it to safe (WTF america?). I really like the trigger, very distinct and mechanical.
Something not a lot of people mention is that it's got good sling attachments on both sides so it's easy to carry even if it is heavy.
As a mainstay rifle i think it's pretty good. Most of them will throw bullets at high speeds in all the conditions we're likely to face here. There's room for improvement but unless we enter a new age of warfare it will get the job done without a fuss.
