Airsoft itself is fine and rather fun. And if your country bans certain guns, like, say, the Syrups and their FALs, you can get a good quality replica without having to support some asshole deact company that mutilates guns for profit.
However, they can cost more than the real version of said gun.
The community is horrible, it's terribly rife with the worst CoD-themed cancer, the worst of mall-ninjas and wannabe Operators, though it can help kids get into guns.
The guns are neat, and use some interesting ways to simulate real gun mechanics, but the average player is a disgusting chode. Use it to get children into guns, or if you can't have guns, but stay away from the shit community.
