Guys I have a question.

AR-15s are incredibly expensive in my country, but I finger fucked one at a gun shop the other day and have to own one.

Can the same lower be used for any caliber?

I was hoping to get something in 5.56 or 7.62x39 for plinking then another upper in something more suited for hunting (up to deer size). I was hoping to get a .308 upper but it appears only similar sized rounds like .223, 300BLK or 6.8 are compatible. Is that right?

Yes, for rounds longer than 5.56 a different lower is necessary with a larger magazine well. You can still use various short-n-fat calibers, but "legit" hunting calibers are probably not gonna work unless you go AR-10.

So what is the most powerful round that will fit in an AR-15?

I won't be able to afford multiple guns for a while and an AR with a couple of uppers seems to be the perfect compromise between being accurate and practical but also something fun that I can play oper8or with.

You really have to reign in what you want. A typical AR15 lower will do with 5.56/.223 and .300BLK and some other rounds that are specific to fitting that lower. An AR10 or AR308 type shit is much more limited.

If you don't have extensive experience on rifles with irons, I think you made a great choice. The concept of a consistent sight picture and alignment is a real marksmanship fundamental and can get lost looking through an optic. I'll expose my innamuhreesns and say shoot that motherfucker until you feel comfortable hitting a man-sized target at 200-500yds and then throw an optic on there.

Fucking good. Ring that steel.

Most of the high quality ammo/barrel tests center around 100yds. 1" = 1MOA at 100yds is a pretty basic concept, but it gets harder to match that precision as you go farther out.

When you have good consistency on a target at a range you're expecting to shoot it at (say, a deer at 150yds), then throw a magnified optic on that shit and realize how big your spread is. Then start shooting even better.

I'm sure you've put a good amount of thought into what is and isn't convenient for him, but I will say that I was seriously impressed by the improvement of a medium BCM over the milspec charging handles I was used to. If you've decided a side-charger is best I won't argue it, but I think a good ambi lower and a good ambi CH would enable someone with limited right hand usage to shoot an AR well.

Which is what a lot of people do, but the FSP cutout rails like what you pictured are to adapt longer and more modern handguards to military or police rifles where they want to keep certain things like sights and gas blocks standardized.

What would be the best twist rate for a poorfag shooting surplus (M193, M855, etc.) and the occasional good load (Hornady TAP) for home defense practice?

I'm thinking a 1:7 would be best from my own research. Should I go with a 1:9? Or would a 1:8 offer a decent middleground?

I have no idea as to what twist rate to go with since there is such a big variance as to what I call plinking ammo, and my self-defense/home rifle ammo.

Its misleading to people that don't understand just how minute a diference that 1:7 has vs 1/8 on a 62g bullet.

IMHO 1/7 is better due to its performance with 77g OTM loads, which is what everyone should be running for HD/Riot Issues

It's a piece of shit. I respect PA for having appropriately priced and generally functional chink glass and red dots, but their reflex is bb-gun, paintballing, airsoft quality. They do not hold zero for shit under recoil and the adjustments are barely functional.

Stick with their micro dots for a reflex from PA.

Ok, thanks. I got the red dot and it works fine. Turns out I kind of prefer iron sights, but I was wondering if the reflex sights were any good. I may go back and try lessening the intensity of the red dot and using it at a lower setting.

Copper fouling isn't something you should worry about until the rifle starts fall off in accuracy anyway. Depending on the quality of the barrel and the quality of the jacket on the projectiles you shoot, that could be within a couple hundred or only after a couple thousand rounds.

Overcleaning to remove copper every match or range trip is why folks "lose" zero after cleaning. You want fouling to fill imperfections in the bore and then the barrel will settle into a consistent node. Consistency is accuracy, so ride that plateau of carbon clean but copper fouled until you can't anymore.

I only had to copper strip my precision AR twice in the 4500 rounds it took to start to shoot the throat out.

500 you can still do with a 5.56 AR to a reasonable degree. 1000 and you probably want something like 308 (which means a different receiver) and even that's on the edges of the cartridge's capabilities. 5.56 isn't meant for going out that far. You can do it but it's got a hell of a drop.

in general the farther you want to go, the longer a barrel you'll want. it drops drastically the farther you go too. kind of like a car with gas goes far but if you run out you're going to coast to a stop.

I was just now shooting in rain and my new upper failed several time and i walk back home only to find that ftfe is to the increased friction caused by spotty slim amount of lube+carbon+aluminum shaving. Is bullshit. Its embarrassing for Anderson imo because first 500round i fried through my psa upper was DUSTY BONE dry it had little aluminum dust there and there but it never even bothered psa upper.

The majority of fault lay to aluminum shaving. My other psa upper never jammed or had any failure even when sand got in upper and been shootings it in rain like 5 time now flawlessly. Anderson upper obviously need to be "broke in" which's really just cam recession need to be wearing away to point where it stop.

Oh oh and there was unusual wear pattern on one of contact point inside the upper which show high spots. Im considering contacting Anderson and letting them know of this shit.

Bullet does hit raindrop but the odds are slim, it does increase as distance increase. I forgot whats odd's but if i would have to take guess it's not even 8% but if bullet does hit raindrop it would indeed have effect especially if bullet doesnt hit the drop in the center and worse if repeating hitting several drop on the way to target and mostly on one side of the round. But serious note even if your bullet hit like 5raindrop the effect would be negligible.

I ran it pretty hard at Thunder Ranch's "urban precision rifle" class. All my AR's have always had the stock trigger guard. During the class that gap in front of the grip, which I never had problems with before gave me a one hell of a blister at the base of my middle finger. That got changed out for a magpul guard as soon as I got back from the class.

Embarrassingly I had to ask my friend about timing it correctly, he's an armorer at a local shop. Those are the color shims the booklet said to use. Also had a shim less installation. It's slightly offset in the clockwise direction. Also just realized I lost the little baggy of extra shims.

Sorry, yeah that was my 100yd sight in to see how much POI shift I got with the YHM Tank Can on the end of it.

Attached is the 200yd I had but that was different bullets (129gr SSTs) vs 140gr AMAX that I am running now.

All of this done with a shitty PA Scope. Toppest of keks.

That is the best part. A Primary Arms 4-14x FFP in DNZ rings.

I wanted to see how good the RIFLE could do, so I went with shit glass, while I wait for my Viper PST to arrive eventually.

It is a pretty fantastic rifle. The Sampson rail is meh I think. Just had the rail section torque out of the foreend. Annoying.

Other than that, its a fucking great rifle. Need to get me an AICS mag though, I am now at the max COAL for PMAGs.

Or I will chop some mags.

For a rail I was considering the new BCM KMR Alpha since it's drastically cheaper, should be stronger, and is only 2oz heavier.

Not sure what rear sight I want yet, something flip up, but not sure from there.

For an optic I was gonna do a PA Advanced on an American Defense QD mount.

Light was probably gonna be a Surefire G2X unless there's another light in the similar price range that's good/better.

About nickel plated m19-3 you are obviously baiting now yoi instantly focus on nickel its like you dont know what m19-3 is. S&W M19-3 is highly sought after for its made impeccably with beautiful case hardened trigger and hammer. Its third of first generation of combat magnum hence "-3" trigger so know nothing fag thought trigger job was done but nope came that way from factory. God teir reliable. Nickel plating is superior to bluing for corrosion and wear resistance. It look like it isnt even year old even tho it was duty gun at one point and passed through two owner before coming in my ownership.
