How would a civil war even play out in Suburbia USA?
Our infrastructure is pretty unique and different to shitholes like Syria and Iraq, where the insurgents have tremendous terrain advantage and hiding places. Everything here is spaced out just mostly houses outside a few big cities.
Also, those insurgents had the weight of several countries behind them providing them with full auto weapons, viable AT options and ammo.
Americans don't have any of that.
I was trying to explain this to a guy at work and he wouldn't listen, kept insisting him and his little group of neighbors with semi auto AR-15s could stand a chance against 2 SWAT teams coming for their guns in their MRAPs

How the fuck is it that people don't get how this works?

When the first news of gun confiscation comes in, people are going to bury their guns, make up a story about a private sale, and then start killing off duty cops.

The insurgent is like a flood, it flows around the points of resistance. If you're all kitted out in SWAT gear kicking down doors, odds are you'll never see one. The open warfare phase won't begin until the entire police department has either been killed in their homes or left.

MRAPs are pretty shit combat vehicles. They're not meant to survive contact and are built more like a commerical Brinks truck. The radiator, engine block, batteries, fuel tank, all completely unarmored. Tires will go flat too, the CITS system on those pieces of shit doesn't work 9 times out of 10 and if it's owned by the police, there is 100% chance they won't beable to fix anything on them if it's broken.

Because the army uses them. That's literally it. The army has a use for Humvees, so they keep them and fix them (sometimes) and recirculates them. I can't think of what use the army would have with a lightly armored, none defensive MRAP.

Isn't it kind of true though? Most gun owners are fudds and other cowards who would probably find some way to rationalize it if faced with a legal dilemma. I'd say only a small portion of gun owners would actually fight a confiscation, especially if the threat of violence was valid.

Do you love the idea of gun owners handing over their guns with a smile, then paying your house a visit a few nights later with a couple Molotovs and a gun they had buried in the back? Because that's what will happen. Good luck getting the boys together to do the next gun grab when you've had a couple cops' families burned out and shot to death.

Not that I'd do it personally but I know several folks who have that as their go-to plan. You strike where your enemy is weak to achieve victory, and cops aren't exactly a hard target when they are at home.

These people like to point out that we have a licensing process for cars, and you have to take a test and prove "proficiency" and all that to get a license, so we should do the same for guns.

Why do these people not realize that yes, you have to do all those things to legally drive a car, but there is nothing stopping anyone who isn't licensed from physically entering a vehicle and driving it? It's still a crime, yet people seem to think licensing is a magic force field that stops anyone without one from driving.

So let's compare some numbers... This is just Ohio, and the 2015 numbers are just through last week. Notice the 28,000+ "driving under suspension" stops.... Now compare that to gun crime numbers across the whole country.
