why would any civilian need a silencer???
the only real use is to kill silently
maybe for .22 and 223 for hunting but why would anyone need a silenced 9mm ect

Supressors are not silent. It's still quite loud. What they prevent is hearing damage.

This is especially important in home defense, where you may not have time for ear protection and your family members probably won't either.

There are two main factors when it comes to sound from a firearm. The hot gases expanding when it is fired, and the sonic boom when the bullet pierces the sound barrier. Supressors handle the former and subsonic ammo handle the latter.

Suppressor's aren't some magic Sam Fisher thwump wump silencers. They just bring the noise of the report down, normally to a level safer for your ears. .22 and the like can be silenced fairly well but for the most part (7.62x39, 5.56 etc) will be a lot louder than you'd think.

The reason gun ownership is guaranteed as a right is so that the populace can act as a military. Your question answers itself.

However, hearing protection, especially in a defensive indoor (home) event is a valid "need" for a suppressor as permanent hearing damage is likely otherwise.
