The cost to replace and maintain the trident missile system for the UK is expected to be around £167 billion. This is more than 50% higher than the previous top figured claimed by opponents to its replacement.
Looks like the independent nuclear deterrent is doomed - but I'm not even that bothered.
Think of all the areas of the UK armed forces that could do with that money ? And what do we REALLY lose ? As Long as the US has a nuclear deterrent we are just as safe as them.
And for the outraged Americans who are about to complain about us not doing our part. What did our 4 SSBN's do that yours cant ? wouldn't you rather see an allied nation with far more SSN's or airlift capability.
Trident opponents seem to think that getting rid of trident means that there will be more money for handouts and tendies. When in reality pretty much all the money saved would be put back into the UK forces.
So what would /k/ spend all those extra GBP on ?
