Okay, so the #1 Best source is absolutely Eastern bloc.
The most likely way you will find this is on Yugoslavian ammo, clipped. This ammo is brass and corrosive but getting pretty hard to find. The clips are very good quality.
Chinese clips or commercial ones are generally very poorly made and many will not function off the boat. I got some gunshow ones that were way too tight to use.
There are two ways you can tinker with these poorly made clips though, to improve them.
1. there are two tabs in the spine of the clip at the top and bottom. They should apply a gentle inward pressure on the ammo as to not allow it to slide off the clip, but not too tight as to impede loading.
2.
The rimlock on the clip.
So naturally the clips hold the ammo in through the rim on the catridge. however, many of the aftermarket clips are out of spec here and this is what made many of mine un-usable.
the easiest solution to this is to simply place ammunition into the clip, and use the bullet tip for leverage as a wrench to pry the rim lips open wider. Now you just want to wiggle/bend the rounds back and forth. This will push the walls of the clip up, loosening the hold on the catridges so they no longer bind up.
Also keep a good pair of pliers nearby, so you can adjust the tightness of the metal on the rim of the catridges. Unevenness along either side of the clip's retaining lips or excessive looseness (and obviously, tightness) will impede the clip's proper function.
With a bit of tinkering you can make these clips functional.
Remember to always test the clip when loading the magazine, and please do not chamber when you do this. A clip that may feel alright in the hand may not function properly in the rifle, where snags will be more readily demonstrated.
