Does anyone here know how hard you have to strike a primer to get it to ignite?

Does it vary from round to round? If so, specifically 10mm auto.

Yep.
Only general rule I know is milsurp isn't particularly sensitive.

I keep reading some crazy shit on forums.

Some idiots say something like "a firing pin must be able to launch a pencil x feet in the air".

Others said get a radar gun and measure the speed of the bolt on an open bolt gun then find it's mass.

Is there no "standard" for how hard they need to be hit.

I assume that there is an average force that you would use, otherwise making guns would be crazy hard.

It's not about how hard you strike it. Primers aren't pressure based, it's the sudden impact in the proper location.

You got to dent it pretty good. I know primers vary by individual round because I had a revolver doing nothing but light primer strikes and you'd get 1 in 8 that would get a dent in the back but it would'nt go off.

I don't know, but as long as you can dent the primer sufficiently hard (no such thing as too hard as long as you don't puncture the primer) you're good to go.

Do you have any pictures of the primers? I should be able to see how hard it was hit if I know what kind of metal the primer cup was made out of and how much of a dent it made.

I don't take pictures of that kind of thing, but they looked like this, only in the center.

I believe .38 special and 9mm use the same 'small pistol' primer.

It was a S&W so I just adjusted the mainspring tension and it made deeper dents and I stopped getting duds.

Pretty fukin hard. I had a primer strike that forced me to manually cycle my sidearm in combat once. Fukin 9mm nato rounds.

when reloading it is possible to crush the primer without it igniting.
