Who ever claimed it did?

That said, I always use my Dan Wesson for target shooting if it needs to count (Beer bets and such)

But my Steel Challenge gun is an automatic.

My snub revolver is a lot easier to conceal than my compact 9. Revolvers are also more practical than semis when you get into the larger calibers. The one realm they lose out in is combat handgun, in which case the capacity and reload speed of the semi is superior.

I have no issue with someone carrying a revolver over a semiauto since at least they have a gun, and statistically even on the extremely rare chance they have to use it, the conflict will be settled (for better or worse) within 3 rounds.

The issue I have with revolvers is the false security blanket fuddlore provides them about reliability. Had a coworker with a jframe she carried in her purse for years without maintaining or firing. Maybe they cylinder was still free and it would still light off all 5, maybe it wouldn't, but the lack of regard so many people have for maintenance on a revolver bugs the shit out of me.

I CC a revolver because I practice with it the most, but also because of my own anecdotal story of a friend who lost an eye over his semi auto jamming on him during a mugging.

I think revolvers have a distinct advantage in simplicity and mechanism when used in very close (sub 5-10 feet) defense, since one can not go out of battery, or otherwise jam during the actions in a close scuffle.

The point of discussing her revolver was not that it failed her, but that she felt that since it was a revolver she just had to buy it and that was it. She felt no obligation to practice or maintain the weapon simply because it was a revolver. That is what got my goat.

I had a Taurus 605. Worked great. Until it fired out of timing which is the revolver version of out of battery. Sheered off the copper case and jammed in the barrel and chamber preventing it from turning at all. The only way I unjammed it was to take a hammer and a 1x1 and beat on the cylinder until it bent the copper enough to release and swing out.

Revolvers can jam. When they do they do so in impossible to clear ways.

As to my anon friend, the revolver has distinct advantages at melee range.

it's very likely, (and indeed has happened before) where in a melee scuffle, your gun will go off once but fail to load or eject properly, say if you were on the ground being attacked, or the assaliant grabs your weapon. With the revolver, there is a much lessened chance of this occuring. As well as the fact the heavy DA pull would serve as additional protection for misfires in a close encounter.

At contact ranges both can have issues. You can hold the cylinder of a revolver or put your hand between the hammer and firing pin if it has an exposed hammer.

On a semi, you can grab the slide and push it out of battery.

My favorite revolver jamming story is some shit winchester white box where the bullet worked its way out so it was outside the cylinder and catching on the frame. Only way to fix was to bang the bullet back in.

I've also had cylinders seize up for no reason and require a good smack to turn again. Same with dirty cylinder releases.

What happened with s&w/ruger?

Ive been looking at s&w 642 for ccw. My biggest worry isn't running out of ammo, it's that i'd be distracted by knowing i only have 5 shots. My glock 19 is comforting having all those easy followup shots but it won't fit in dress pants easy.

The S&W gear broke and wouldn't engage the cylinder. The Ruger was a blackhawk and the cylinder pin bound up pushing the cylinder too high and it wouldn't rotate. Both rare occurrences.
