Preparedness Communication

So I'm looking how I could improve on my current comms plan for SHTF....

I've got a couple Baofeng radios programmed and ready to go. Now I'm wondering what I should do to increase their effectiveness or should I add a shortwave radio receiver like a Yaesu FRG-7? (So I can also listen to broadcasts around the world, if Shit has really hit the fan) Even if any power is out in a 400 kilometer radius. Not to mention trying to track muh numbuh stasiuns before anything has happened, for shits and giggles.

It's mainly for gathering intelligence after the fact, and keeping in touch with the family if a group has to go out of the house or Bug-Out-Location for intel or supplies.

I've read the USMC Radio Operator handbook and it had some good info.

I've got the Baofengs programmed with PMR446 channels (yeah, Glorious Europe), amateur radio repeaters, frequencies used by the national amateur radio emergency services, frequencies used by the Red Cross, and some marifone channels that broadcast weather reports at set times.
