Why do barrels seem to be angled then the slide is locked? Is it an optical illusion or are they made that way?

Because handgun cartridges are slower muffle-velocity than rifles, so it's an inbuilt correction for bullet drop.

the barrel angles at a degree that helps the rounds enter when the slide is back. it lowers back to a level angle when the slide goes forward.
