>>27699746I agree with everyone who has responded to you so far, they are pretty on the money. I'll add this though.
On a basic philosophical level, if you believe in the concept of western auto-determination, of the individual, then the only role people have in interfering with suicide is trying to convince a suicidal person not to. No one has the right to erect actual legal barriers to suicide, because it isn't your life and, at least in my opinion (and it's one that is probably shared a lot in this thread), any person has h=the right to end there life. It is, at the end of the day, the only power you have to remove yourself completely from society if you no longer agree with it and you no longer want to play the game.
No one has the legal or moral obligation to continue living. People prattle on and on about 'what about all the disruption you cause, blah blah blah', and yes, while it is true you may cause a lot, that is only because the current structure of civilization necessitates a good deal of paperwork and humdrum bullshit when someone dies. But that is not your fault and that's none of your concern. You are not obligated to keep living because your death would create work for others. Suicide is an inalienable right of any consenting adult (and arguably of reasonably articulate minors as well), regardless of what western jurisprudence currently holds.
Erecting barriers is also pointless. The studies asserting taking away tools decreases suicide are inherently flawed. They are predicated on the faulty assumption that suicide delayed is suicide prevented. Delaying the action of suicide through barriers does not address the underlying feeling of deep suicidal depression. At best, the assumption is something aking to 'time heals all wounds, if we delay suicide the person might get better'. But there is no reason to believe that is true. I could even readily make the point it's exactly the opposite.
sorry, no more ranting from me.
