Here's my little story on this.
Me and a few buddies were headed through Florida to Miami for a cruise. One of them was a soon-to-be Marine at basic. He was really into Marine Corps history and all that and we were all supportive of it. We all supported the military anyway so why the fuck not. The Marine Corps birthday was going to happen while we were on the ship and he wanted to do something special for it. We were brainstorming on what to do as well. It's a cruise, you're supposed to have fun like this right?
At one of the rest stops there was a vet collecting money for vet organizations. Hit as fuck and most people just walked by him without a word. We decided not to be assholes, brought the guy some water, and talked to the guy for a while. Pretty cool guy in all honesty. He told us that he gives a hat to anyone that donated $20. Each of the hats had the seal of one of the branches of the US military on it and a little golden branch with leaves design on the bill. I get the bright idea to donate $80 to him and wear the Marine Corps hats. It was probably going to be our last hurrah with our soon-to-be Marine so why the fuck not. He liked the idea, we were all down with it, we donated to a good cause, everyone was happy.
Fast forward to being on the ship. Marine Corps birthday comes around and we have our hats. Canadian Veterans Day happens too. A bikers club gave us poppy flowers to wear to commemorate the occassion. I brought a small American flag and made a small flagpole to display it properly. We party with the Canadians, bikers, and other miscellaneous people. It's pretty fucking awesome.
Next day. Eating at the ship's buffet. Meathead comes up to us and sits down next to us. Other meatheads standing behind us. Why? They saw our hats and that we had the flag yesterday. Meathead 1 asks if we were military. We all say no and explain the hats and all. Meathead gets furious saying that we're disrespectful and stealing valor.
