Convince me which Optic I should get. I'm torn between the Elcan SpecterOS 4x and Trijicon 4x.

I like Elcan reticle better but like that Trijicons are lighter and don't require batteries.

Are those the battery powered ACOG knockoffs. I have only heard of them. Haven't heard much good or bad though. I know the ACOG and Elcan have both been through some shit.

My friend has an Elcan and I've looked through literally every Acog that Trijicon offers.

Get the Elcan, that 1-4 is the shit.

It's not really a knockoff since the guy who designed it also designed the ACOG. The BCO is kind of a continued development of the ACOG. It's main advantage is that it has a target light sensor that measures brightness at the target and can auto-adjust the reticle illumination to be appropriate for what is targeted.

Seems he doesn't want the SpecterDR 1-4x:

OP says "SpecterOS 4x" which is the fixed magnification version that the British military uses

I've heard that the 1x mode on the DR is a bit weird-looking (like it has a slight magnification or parallax), so people generally prefer to run a 1x mini red dot on top of it anyway.

If that's the case, may as well save money and get the fixed 4x version and put a red dot on that.

Speaking of which; do Elcan sell a commercial version of the OS4 with a reticle similar to the British one?

Looks a lot cleaner than the crosshair reticle they have on the SFOV4-C1 model

There's a lot to go wrong on the BCO. I think it's cool, but until it's really been tested with real use and had its shit kicked in repeatedly and has proven to work through that, I'd personally just rather drop that kind of money on something more proven.

Having owned a few Trijicons, now owning a SpecterDR, and having played with an OS4x; if you are asking soley between the TA31 and OS4x, I like the OS4x.

Between the brand offerings though, I like the Trijicon TA33 better than either. stepping down to 3x is a minimal change, it is lighter weight, and has superior eye relief
