Race gun holsters usually have some sort of manual lock that needs to be disengaged before the gun can be drawn, and have adjustable settings that can be fine tuned to the stage you are shooting. Much of the cool gadgets (compensators, red dot sights, flared magwells, etc) have real world applications, but they require extensive maintenence that might otherwise not be available in the field where durability and ease of maintenence are invaluable. These adjustments are known more for their ability to shave seconds off a course of fire, and not for their ability to hold up under sustained use in extreme adverse environments.
