There were more than 20,000 built and something like 3,000 seafires IIRC.
It fought in the most pivotal air war during WW2 and while the hurricane killed more aircraft - the spitfire engaged fighters allowing the hurricane to focus on bombers.
Easily the best Allied fighter by a considerable margin.
Best axis aircraft pretty much comes down to what you like - there are no real criteria. I'd pick the Zero for its dominance in the early war.
My favorite aircraft of the war was the Mosquito because i am a bongaloid who loves how fast and versatile it was.
