Hey there /k/,
I live in a third world shithole that has strict gun control laws. All we can get over here are pistols/revolvers chambered in .22, .32 ACP, .32S&W, .38 special or .380 exclusively.
Recently I decided to go ahead and get a gun for myself as a means of self-defense. I already settled for a Walther PPK, a friend owns a store and will sell me one cheap, they are nice and classy little guns and all that, but I'm here stuck between picking the one chambered in .32, or one in .380.
I know .380 is the smallest recommended caliber for self-defense carry, but I also keep reading that .32 ACP was stupidly popular in Europe during and after WWII (one would think the .32 is combat proven).
Given the way things work over here, if someone pulled a gun on me when my car is stopped at the lights, or if someone came at me with a knife in a dark alley, I'd be looking for the caliber that could put that man down on the ground as fast as possible without having to pull the trigger over and over and over again.
So I turn to you guys the noble the experts. For self-defense carry, which caliber would be most suitable?
Would getting a 20 round .22 pistol and filling it to the brim with .22 magnum be a viable idea?
> Another secondary question. 9x18 Makarov, may or may not (depends on stupid politicians) be legal over here. Would a Makarov be a better choice in this case?
