>>27715459>>27715431They are full auto. Generally they are shot in semi-auto. As was the case in Afghanistan. Some of these firefights lasted for 8 or 10 hours, you simply can't mag dump in such a situation.
The Bundeswehr has purpose build weapons (MG3, MG4) for automatic fire, a regular rifleman generally would not fire his G36 in full auto.
The testing procedure mentioned in
>>27715411 basically came down to full-auto dumping several hundred rounds (full combat load or possibly even more ...), THEN immediately afterwards engaging single targets at ranges between 200-400m. Apparently this was based on a hypothetical scenario of a group of 10 or so infantryman with no other weapons and no support whatsoever being ambushed by local irregular fighters.
It's just not something that assault rifles are designed for or meant to do. They're versatile weapons with the capability of full auto fire for combat in confined spaces, but prolonged automatic fire exceeds the design specs of pretty much every assault rifle of the world and I believe most of them would also show issues in accuracy, reliability or both after such bad handling. At least the G36 still goes bang every time you pull the trigger ...
You see where this leads?
