Was thinking of getting my own first personal rifle and pistol.

Looking at a Makarov of some sort, also would like to CC when I get licensed they seem like a good choice.

And a Mosin Nagant for the rifle.

Thoughts?

But the difference is I've shot lots of .22, mainly magnum out of a savage and a Henry golden boy. I have experience with a slightly higher caliber bolt action too but not a whole lot.

As far as pistols though only have experience (very little) with a .22lr, which felt similar in recoil to an airsoft m9 I have.

Get a bare bones AR-15 and a >14 round capacity 9mm. Both of their ammunition is dirt cheap

It's not that I don't like the SKS. I really don't know a lot about them though. I do want something with pretty cheap ammo ideally, at first I liked the idea of a AK 74 because the cartridge but then I read about the Ammos import ban.

I just really liked the WWII and before era rifles like the Mosin aesthetically, and I knew it was cheap and many peoples starter rifle. So that's why I considered it mainly.

The Mak is a terrible pistol for CC if you have pretty much anything else available. I have one. It's really not good.

Extremely terrible rifle given today's price points. I probably wouldn't have bought my M44 if it were priced even at last year's prices if I had to do it again.

Pick basically anything else and you'll do better. But, given your choices, you're probably not going to listen to this.

You can buy a 74 style ak that shoots x39. I'd recommend a Mosin though, extremely fun guns and the ammo costs next to nothing.

Too fucking bad it's not 1905 anymore, isn't it?
Fact of the matter it that most if not all 9mm or .45 loads will outperform 9x18 by a wide margin.
That said, 9x18 hollow points will penetrate to 12" in ballistic gel and makarovs are know for their dead nuts reliability, so buying one with the intent to carry definitely isn't a horrible idea.
