>>27715791I like my 10/22. I can fit 400 rounds of Remington 22 Target plus I can squeeze a few 10rd magazines in the top of the lower pouch. The upper pouch usually has some work gloves (insulated ones during winter), a flashlight, mylar blanket, hand warmers, and fleece cap.
Inside, I can fit the rifle in both smaller sleeves. The largest sleeve holds a cardboard box with survival supplies: about 150' of paracord, fire kit, extra mylar blanket, some Remoil, a hexamine stove & fuel (note: vacuum seal it!), plus a small steel pot, lid, plastic cups, and a half-decent medical kit.
The medical kit is basically an AMK pocket trauma kit, plus cotton balls, neosporen, small tub of petroleum jelly, bandaids, and small baggies of common OTC drugs like aspirin, advil, Tylenol, Loratadine, Benadryl, Sudafed, and Imodium. I've also got some supplements like a general multivitamin (unbalanced diet for 2+ days), potassium (if light-headed from exertion), and magnesium (for constipation).
Honestly, though, I'd recommend getting a Ruger SR22 instead of the 10/22 Takedown. Accuracy-wise, it's not quite as good. However, the handgun is significantly lighter and easier to conceal. Aside from that, I'd look for a revolver in 357 Magnum. You can use cowboy 38 loads for small game, snake-shot for pests, and magnum for medium game and two-legged predators. With a reloading kit, you also have the option of salvaging components from most handguns. (Any 9mm bullet, small pistol or magnum pistol primers, and powder from almost anything.)
>>27717655I think BX-25 magazines are rather a waste of space if this is a backpacking gun. The capacity is good but it's unlikely you'll want a big stick magazine when a flush magazine makes it easier to carry and allows you to pack more ammo.
