Over the past 2 months I've picked up pic related and thought I'd share my findings so that others looking for budget funs might be better informed.

>top fun
AR15 from Palmetto State. Purchased a complete upper for $375 during a weekend sale (FN barrel) and a blem lower for $130. A couple 40 rd pmags, transfer/shipping, and a cheap rear flip up brought the total to about $580. Rifle performs flawlessly at the range and other AR's costing $1000 more are 99% just cosmetic improvements. Ammo tested was basic PMC brass and American Eagle soft points.

>middle fun
Catamount Fury 2 12ga. Awesome fucking firearm that looks and feels menacing. Ran through about 30 rounds at the range with zero problems (full power buckshot) and then on the 6th mag the fucking thing imploded. Bolt locked forward with a live round chambered and half of the dust cover on the right side missing leaving internals exposed. Got it on sale for $350 but am in the process of sending it back for replacement. Not recommended.

Canik TP9SA. $300 "budget" 9mm that holds 18 per mag and functions absolutely flawlessly over the first 200 rounds through it. Standing groups at 10yds were about 3-4in with a novice shooter and all 18 fired. The decocker is a complete non issue and this pistol is a must have. Ammo tested was fiochi basic 115gr ball.

All said and done I picked up these 3 for about $1250 fully expecting one of them to be a failure. Too bad it was the scattergat..
