can you help me pick out a rifle, /k/?

features I'm looking for:
bolt action
either .338 Lapua or .300 Win Mag
detachable mags with at least 5 rounds of 338 or 7 of 300
wood and/or aluminum furniture standard or optional; no plastic
ideally around 10 lbs but up to 15 is fine

First do you reload? If not don't even think about 300WM or 338LM.
If you answered yes then the only thing besides a custom build would be either the Barrett 98B or MRAD

there's all sorts of milsurp and hunting bolt actions on the market in .30-06, .308, .270 etc. and it's really hard to narrow down what's right for you without knowing what features are important for you.

my difficulty is finding a magnum rifle with both detachable mags and wood furniture.
they're all either fixed mag hunting rifles or plastic stocked tactical snipers.

a custom order PGM 338 is the only option I've come across so far.
I'm looking but can't find any wood furniture for Barrett or Mcmillan

forgot to add that you should be able to add wood AR15 stocks to that

fromt rail is aluminum, although you can switch to other metal or wood foreends

oh yeah I'd forgotten about that. I was thinking bolt actions. it'd be nice if the BAR had high cap mags too.

the WA2000 came in 300 Win Mag too I think.
I don't know of any other semi autos though

looking at the CDi site, they also have a bottom metal for Winchester actions,
and the AI .300wm description lists maximum cartridge length at 3.625"
.375 H&H overall length is 3.6"

is it possible I could outfit my .375 model 70 to use 10rd mags?

I want it to be true...

6.5x47 Lapua, 6.5CM, 6.5x284, .243win, .243AI, 6XC.

Literally all of those are suitable for precision work out to about 1400m (with several going out further), while being able to pull double duty as a medium-game round. The 6.5x284 and 6.5CM are actually even suitable for American elk/European "moose", caribou, and other similarly sized game with proper bullet selection.

Of those, 6.5CM, .243win, and 6.5x47Lapua have the deepest load data and most widely available brass (as well as working OOTB in .308/7.62x51 mags).

Then buy a CZ550 in .458winmag. You do not shoot over 500m, you do not need a magnum caliber to shoot over 1000m. Until you hit about 1700m the various 6mm and 6.5mm medium-capacity "match" rounds outperform .300wm and .300RUM while having literally 1/8th the recoil of .338Lap.

Craps out at about 600m. .277 bullets have basically no high-BC availability, nobody makes match bullets for them.

Also, it recoils about twice as hard as it should for the performance it delivers (just like .30-06, its parent case) being a skinny long-action round with a gentle shoulder instead of short, fat, and steep-shouldered. Because it's old.

Is it doable with a .270? Yeah, sure. But the components and load data aren't there and there are exactly ZERO factory match loads.

I appreciate the advice but I'm not really interested in medium caliber target rifles.
I could explain in detail my reasons and situation if you'd like but it would get boring fast.

basically I'm just curious what rifles /k/omrades know of that have all the features listed in the OP. my own research came up pretty dry.

How about an Armalite AR-30A1? They come to about 15 pounds with aluminum furniture and use 5rd magazines for either of your preferred cartridges.

A bit on the pricy side but incredibly well built. Though a bit heavy, it's pretty much one of the best .338 rifles out there. Haven't regretted the ~$8,000 put into the rifle so far

they are impressive rifles. I looked for a while and couldn't find a wood stock that would fit one, or I would have already settled on that.

I suppose I could try to find a person or group that makes custom rifle stocks from scratch, but the cost and wait time would probably be pretty bad

There isn't much, not in those calibers.

You'd be looking at Cheyenne Tactical, Barrett, AI, etc. if you absolutely cannot stand the idea of a fiber/glass-filled nylon (hurr plastic) stock like a McMillan A3/A5 or a Choate.
