>>27720157This is a pretty good quick n' dirty summary:
>>27720177With things like CEC, the reaction time advantage is largely negated, and has really complicated attacking a CBG or so on.
Speaking of CBG's, would it be accurate to say that aircraft-launched (LRASM for example) AShM's have reduced the need for the USN to have supersonic missiles?
Similar speeds, more range, maneuverable, can be stealthy, carries a lot of ordnance, etc.?
Also, the U.S. has investigated, and even briefly fielded supersonic LACM's and AShM's, but decided they weren't really needed at the time, which goes back to this article and how it reflects as much. Some anon made a list of about 30 (I think) supersonic/hypersonic missiles the U.S. has made/used, and it's a pretty interesting read when you look into them. I figured most all of them were just experiments or so on, but quite of few of them were actually fielded/used, and some are even still being researched actively, which is neat.
I'll try and find the anon's list if anyone wants.
