Anyways, this guy, he started out more or less a regular liberal but he was swayed by progressive ideology in college and became a progressive, convinced that it is his moral obligation to help out with racism, sexism etc.
Being a smart person though, he absolutely hates most of his fellow progressives and hated being around them in school because of their lack of intellectual rigor and insistence on self and group censorship.
Nevertheless, he does not take a liberal view about the law, I don't think he can wrap his brain around the idea that people need to have rights and that it's better for the government to do no harm than for society's problems to be solved by heavyhanded use of force.
Consequently he seriously argued that innocent until proven guilty should be suspended in cases where the conviction rate is unnaturally low like rape, the reasoning being that more people are raped than falsely accused of rape, and well, from a certain utilitarian perspective that does make sense, you need to bring in a lot of reasoning to counter that argument.
That's the problem with postmodern ideas like neo-progressivism, by abandoning ideas like civil rights they make their beliefs seem simple and obvious and the beliefs of literally everyone else in society look complex and outdated.
Nevertheless, the liberal ideas of equality and civil rights sure have stood the test of time.
Anyways, he admits he mostly only hates guns because it falls into the "aesthetic" of the right, and he says he would probably own guns if he lived in a rural area but he considers the low chance of needing to defend yourself not a good enough reason to own a gun, especially considering that some people die in gun related accidents.
