https://www.liberal.ca/realchange/guns/The biggest difference we've managed to make over the last decade was stripping the RCMP of the power to arbitrarily reclassify guns are prohibited. Before that, they didn't have to justify their decisions to anyway and had full control over what was and wasn't banned. They've used this to retroactively ban the Swiss Arms rifles, Type 97A, SPAS-12, Feather carbines, Vz 58, and others. They also approved the SCAR for import and sale, then seized the shipment at the border, held a rifle in their professional government-funded lab for TWO YEARS, and, using original factory FA parts, eventually made it go full-auto. They used that as a justification to ban the SCAR and said it was "easily convertible".
Like I said, we recently stripped them of the power to do that shit. Now they have to recommend classifications to the government, who then reviews the recommendation and issues the final word.
Trudeau has vowed to not only give total control back to the RCMP, but to appoint "law enforcement officers, public health advocates, representatives from women’s groups, and members of the legal community" to the committee that governs our gun laws. He also wants to ban or severely restrict handguns and institute some sort of "assault weapon" rules like shitty US states.
