That's because you're doing it backwards. 2033 is first. Honestly I played it and put it aside. Then I picked it up two years later out of boredom. It was ok. But since I'm designing a metro style gun I gave it another chance. Its pretty good. The kicker was when I learned there was a book. I downloaded it from Audible. The narrator is fucking fantastic. Normal British for narration. Does a host of Russian accents, a unique one for each character. Pronounces everything well. Its so dark and disturbing and I love it. Its like a 20 hour radio show about post apocalyptic Moscow. Russian fiction is so much darker then Western fiction.

Gonna try it again here soon, just on a Witcher 3 kick right now. I really think I didn't get into it because it it underground and dark. Not to sound like a faggot but I hate it when games are dark and spooky all the time. I hate it when quests are underground in Witcher, and I was the same way for Skyrim.

I remember the first time I saw one, I didn't shoot at it, for fear of aggro'ing it. It was dark but I still completely black through email NVGs, and when it started chasing me then bugged through the wall I nearly shat myself.

I've played through metro 2033 about 10 times now and ranger hardcore is definitely the hardest difficulty, you never more than on mag of ammo for each gun, there's very little filters anywhere, and you take damage like a motherfucker. And there's no HUD whatsoever

Nope, Metro as a setting has been taken up by othe authors with the permission of Glukhovsky, the original author.
One of the spin-offs is even written by a britbong and plays in the London Metro IIRC, haven't read it though.
