two reasons, one, you can cc it IWB, OWB, horizontal or vertical shoulder rig, while 6" will pretty much restrict you to a vertical rig (which is the best, but ymmv)
two, full underlugged barrels much longer than 4" are very front heavy and unbalanced.
the older colt pythons with their hollowed lugs are the only exception
