I think its around 8lb weight doesn't matter to me used to lug around 13lb scoped FAL.

It does a great job at keeping the muzzle down, but if you shoot around friends they might hate you for having it. The concussion when you shoot is unreal if you're not directly behind the thing. If you don't have plans to mount a suppressor and want a muzzle brake? I'd go with the Lantac for sure.

You would think instead of undermining major parts of the gun in the name of saving weight, the weight would be saved on other parts, like the sights, the upper rail, the grips etc. and it should be accepted that there is a limit to how light an AR can, or should be.

Got muh first AR15, pretty nice, delton on a LRB lower.

Only question i had, is the buffer retainer detent somehow came loose, i have since tightened the stock.

It's this idea that the boring and rifling process isn't perfect for barrels and little burrs are still present in a virgin barrel. Basically you shoot a round, full clean and shoot another round to get rid of the barrels and get maximum accuracy from it. I know it's almost fudd-tier barrel-maker bullshit but I do it anyway because why not?
But the upper I'm getting is chrome-lined so maybe I don't need to do a normal barrel break-in for it?

I've read it before. Yeah, most of the time it does more harm than good because people don't use bore guides or good tools and end up scratching their barrels. However, for production barrels, you could possibly see a difference. When you get to the custom-tier barrels, you probably shouldn't try to break in a barrel.

New to ARs and looking to purchase.
I'm looking to buy something thats not super expensive, but also not so cheap i'll want to replace it immediately.
Mid tier, I guess. My budget is roughly $1000. Not sure what that gets you in the AR world
NOT looking to build.

I don't know the history or opinions on most of these brands.

$1000 will get you a nice AR. My suggestion? Get a complete lower and mate it with a complete upper. You'll have more freedom of movement that way. For mil-spec lowers of good quality, look at Spikes and Stag. Uppers? Well, that's up to you.

I know you say you don't want to build, but honestly I still cannot recommend that you don't try this:
Go to a range with rentals and shoot and get an AR-15 for the day. Find out what you like about it, what you dislike about it, and then come back here and post about your findings so we can help you decide on parts for a build.

With a grand, you can get a pretty damn good build, and while you might not want it now, you'll be a whole hell of a lot happier down the line if you build a $1000 dollar rifle and get what you want now rather than buying a $1000 dollar rifle and spending another $1000 into new parts.

Even if you don't want to build it yourself, you can go to a local gunsmith or even ship it off and have it built by a trusted company like Weapon Outfitters or Rainier Arms.

If you really want to buy? I'd say get a Colt.

It's not really so much building it as much pushing two pins together. You will be paying a premium for labor, but it's evened out because if you did end up building your own lower and/or upper, you'd need to include the cost of tools and equipment. If you only plan on having 1 AR for the time being or 1 lower with a few uppers, not investing in tools will be fine.

for what? You can put together a lower with the absolute most basic tools that any normal person will have access to. the only thing you could argue for really is a stock wrench, but there are easy alternatives for that.

I got to shoot a prototype Noveske in August at a Thunder Ranch course. I've been kicking myself in the ass for not taking pictures of it - I was too busy learning.

It's a light weight skeletonized AR, similar to the Battle Arms, with a 14.5" carbon fiber barrel NSR handguards, and a Aimpoint T1. The bolt automatically closes when inserting a full magazine.

I'm of the mind that having tools is worth the investment in the long run and minimizes error. Sure, you could do what my friend did and assemble it on his dining table with nothing but punches, a pair of pliers and a 8 oz. hammer, but it's got binded springs, and it's missing the buffer retainer because it flew out. Everything's hand-tight too.
I don't know, it's really up to that guy and his money. I say invest money into tools, but if you're careful you can do it too.

I just put together a lower about 2 hours ago using some pliers, a hammer, a flat head screw driver, and an allen key.

If all the parts you guy are milspec then you don't have to worry about headspacing. This shit basically takes care of itself. Fuck, the proper torque on the barrel nut is between 30-80lbs. You've got 50lbs of play room. The only place you could possibly fuck up is if you install a barrel extension your self. Most AR barrels come with it pre installed so you're g2g.

Honestly, what is your attachment to the early model M16s? I was issued a shitty antique M16A2 and later A4 before our unit got outfitted with M4s and they were garbage weapons. More modern clones that borrow from but IMPROVE the original design (such as the HK416) I could understand. But Colt often makes some shitty design decisions to cut costs on military service rifles so they can rob the contracts, including with the M4.

It's got a short stroke piston they adapted from the G36 that increases the recoil slightly but greatly increases the reliability of the weapon. The proof is in the pudding. They took ten new HK416s and ten new M4s and ran 60k rounds through each rifle and recorded how many stoppages they had. The M4s had 3.5x as many stoppages. There's a reason all the SOF units bought HK416s to replace their M4s.

A couple of days ago on an anons advice I drunkenly bought a bcm blemished upper and a PSA hpt/mpi bolt carrier group.

So, it's due to operator error. Not a design flaw. I can make any rifle malfunction.

Whats the quality like for Del-ton?

Local place has an upper and BCG with a pencil barrel for $370. seems like a good price to me but I know nothing about delton's quality and reliability.

My other alternate purchase would be a BCM for $525. I know BCM makes good shit, the only thing i don't like would be the 1/7 twist.

Midway has a Bushmaster on sale for $400 with BCG. and detachable carry handle

Also, when did BCM jack up their prices and not include a BCG? Their 16", no handguard lightweight rifle is $509.

Is Bushmaster as good or better than BCM?

They didn't jack them up, they slashed them down when they were liquidating all that panic overproduction, just like everyone else. Now that stuff is probably back to normal'ish volume, prices went to where they were previous. At one point you could get a CHF M4gery 14.5 upper with B/CG/CH/A2X and handguard for like $350 or $400.

I just went over all my magazine trying to find which one would allow tip of round to touch upper receiver section of feed ramp and thereby eroding it. I yet to find the magazine responsible but i stumble across some valueable information. The D&H magazine with fagpul follower that came from PSA would shoot last round out into upper as bcg travel rearward after firing second from last round of mag. Although this doesnt cause malfunction because bolt apparently just return and push the midair round and chambeing it. I have emptied that very magazine so often im shocked how it doesnt cause malfunction, not even one time and how it went undetected by me until now. The corrective action i took was swapping the follower and spring between old center ind magazine. Now d&h body with green follower stopped doing that round throwing shit the center ind with fagpul follower simply dont do that.

You might want check all your usgi mag with fagpul bullshit follower for this by loading two round in mag and charging it once then second time but you hold bcg back.

Usgi magazine are designed to be used with black and green follower which have round shape to imitate the cartridges the roundness pin the last cartridges against feed lip. Fagpul for some reason they think they know better and designed false imitater with more flat surface and causing this happen with magazine that are at one end of spec. Perhaps fagpul cut corner for ease of manufacturing.

The promag twenty rounder i already set aside as training and marked would let round tilt out to extreme point where the round is partially outside of the receiver through ejection port. This miraculously doesn't cause malfunction because bcg return and still make contact woth base of round and pushing it between feed lip amd remaining round and the tip return to its place inside upper receiver and chambering normally.

Now of that two discovery those may not happen when bcg is traveling at higher velocity when firing.

I'm a non-paid BCM shill, wrong guy to ask. My honest assessment is that BCM puts out better machines with a higher level of QC. That being said I've shot and been around plenty of Bushmasters and they murder steel, paper and varmints just fine from my observations.

I love my current BCM upper, its fantastic. But the MI quadrail is pretty heavy, and the Burris 536 makes it like 10lbs. I do have an unused lower that I would like to make a lightweight and simple setup.
