They're putting feelers out. Along with accepting other calibers into the competition they are also open to different bullet designs in 9mm or whatever manufacturers step up with.

I don't know why they are asking it to be in any thing other than 9mm. All the former commie countries that joined NATO, just went to 9x19 pistols. So their is little chance that NATO would approve of an ammo change.

I don't know why that want it to be modular. If you need a compact or a sub for conceal carry police purposes. Then they should put in a separate contract for that.

If female officers and manlets can't deal with a standard size grip. Then something is wrong with their technique. Anyone should be able to handle a .50 AE Deagle while using both hands.

FTFY, unless you're going over about 900 ft lbs of energy at which point you can make bullets that reliably fragment while still getting adequate penetration like rifle ammunition you aren't going to see much of a difference (expanding bullets are a massive waste of energy for the amount of gains you will see in wound volume when compared to ammunition that fragments). Although even then you're going to need more expensive ammunition to be able to take full advantage of that additional energy and guns will wear faster.

What the military should be looking at is 5.7x28mm or something else that offers extremely light recoil and even more rounds per magazine than you would see in pistols chambered in 9mm.

The best part about it, at least with the FN Fiveseven, is how light they can make the gun combined with how light the ammunition is. How about a company tries the .25 ACP rimless magnum that some anon brought up a while back, pretty sure he said you could fit about 17 rounds in an M&P Shield's 7 round magazine (which isn't long enough to get your pinkey on) so if you went with a longer and slightly wider magazine you could get some pretty impressive magazine capacity.
