Also, does anyone else have an M39 that shoots about 6 inches high? Or is it my form? I heard some others have had similar issues shooting light ball surplus ammo.

Water alone works on neutralizing the salts, so does ballistol tho. I've shot surplus through mine and it shot high as well, I think they were zeroed for heavier rounds.

Also, military rifles are meant to shoot high: European militaries practiced shooting with a six o clock hold on their targets. Also, they were supposed to aim at roughly a man's belt buckle of his equipment belt (about belly button height), and that'd result in a solid torso hit anywhere from 0 to 300 meters.

I don't know why any of them ever made sights that were never true to the distance it claims to be set to: they should have either just made a battle sight, or sights that shoot true to aim. Then again, the Finnish Army probably didn't envision American sportsmen target shooting those guns 70 years later and discussing it on a Taiwanese basket weaving forum.

Water alone does work, but the Ballistol mixture flushes out salt AND it lightly lubricates the chamber and bore to prevent rust. My range doesnt let people clean at their shooting stations, nor do I have any desire to do so, so I like some assurance that my gun won't rust on the drive home.

Also yeah. I kept hitting 8 inches high. 147gr surplus. That'd explain it.

You're supposed to point the top cartridge towards the sky, away from the stripper clip. Then push down using the rim and bottom of the cartridge for leverage, before loading the round you're holding into the chamber. I flush the barrel with Windex, put a patch or two through. Then finish with a ballistol patch. will I get home then I do a true cleaning. Been doing it for years never had an issue, my 91/30 has zero rust.

Hot water and dish washing detergents will cause rusting of the metal parts of the action and the barrels. If you were to soak wooden stocks for a long time to remove grease, dirt, grime, or cosmoline, there is a good chance of warping the wooden stock.

Anyways, OP here, pic related is my Mosin M39 bore. The counterbore isn't as bad as the picture shows, I just happened to take it from an angle. I bought the rifle from The Mosin Crate for $365 but shipping, insurance, NJ NICS, and transfer fees ran another $80. Very happy overall but as mentioned earlier it shoots about 6 to 8 inches high using 147gr surplus ammo but is very precise. Awesome gun though, even with poor quality milsurp ammo the most trouble I had was a sticky bolt on one split case that required a light palm strike to cock.

Also, the straight bolt is unbelievably easy to work with winter gloves.

Not really. It's in beautiful condition, and the counterboring probably restored the accuracy. The counterbore is very standard and maybe 1 inch deep, it's the same as you'd expect. Stock is in excellent shape and most of the receiver was covered in this black grease (Finnish preserving grease) and the bolt was smothered in cosmoline. The bore is pretty beautiful aside from the counterbore, probably Excellent or even Excellent+ if you ignore the tiny bit of roughness. The receiver is in immaculate shape and the chamber is equally-good, and all of the accuracy shims are in place as expected (really only one).

Oh, and might I add that Classic was selling ones of questionable quality for the same price? Bunch of people had cracked handguards, and most others had okay-tier bores. Maybe a few people had ones in good condition as mine, and if they did then good for them.
