I want to make a necklace/chain with a bullet on it. Going to use 7.62x39.

Would it fucking blow up if I drilled a hole just above the base? (By the rim, into the powder)

To answer your question though, no. Make sure you hold it very close to your eyes so you can drill a straight hole.

Just keep the round under water in a small dish or something when you drill, and wear safety glasses and maybe even a cheap facemask just in case it were to flame up and spit burning and unburnt powder at your face.
You don't want to make a spark or get the steel crazy hot, which is why you submerse it. It's really soft steel though, I wouldn't be too worried about getting it smoking hot.

Removed the bullet from the cartridge. Was surprisingly easy, all that was needed was two pliers/vice grips
