This is a military history board right? What would military history look like if Nationalism and the democratic revolutions of the 1700s and 1800s hadn't occurred in Europe or the Americas?
You'd still have industrialized warfare because it wouldn't stop the Industrial Revolution, but it probably would mean no conscription armies, no massive infantry battles, no wars based on ideology (other than religious ideology), and thus no huge volunteer or standing armies?
I've been trying to imagine what an army would look like circa France 1930 without any nationalism, but it so dramatically changes the form of any modern military that I can't really do it.
So what does /k/ think such an army would be like?
